Transitioning from a mere observer of life experiences to an active participant, I find that the application of the Science of Mind principle “Oneness of All” poses a unique challenge  during college football season. What an incredible expression of Spirit individuations displayed in a college stadium, filled with passionate fans, music, choreographed bands, and fireworks! Yet, the numerical outcome of a game overshadows this magnificence when my team loses.

Why does a win hold such significance?

For me, football season brings alive those Metaphysical Charts in the back of the Holmes Science of Mind text. For example, in October during a critical moment the opposing team had the ball in overtime. It was third down and the team needed four yards for a first down. The announcer fires up the crowd, “Get on your feet, it’s THIIIIIIIRD DOWN.”  The stadium resonates with a deafening roar while I ponder the Divine Creative Process. If 80,000 spectators unite in cheering for our defense, then Spirit will manifest that perfect desired outcome, right?

No. The other team scores a touchdown leaving me questioning the workings of Spirit.

I sit in my bleacher seat as the stands empty, envisioning the image of the Science of Mind Metaphysical Chart’s classic circle with the V, illustrating Unity. I am reminded there is no us. There is no them. A touchdown for the opposing team is, in essence, a touchdown for our team. Despite grasping this truth of Universal Law, I, along with 80,000 others, still grapple with heartache as evidenced by the silence of the stadium.

Reflecting on this past season, where my son's football team lost three games determined by a last second field goal and another in overtime, I acknowledge my thoughts are still rooted in duality rather than unity.

Determined to break free from limited thought, I commit to liberating myself from the constraints of winning or losing. I will enter next season knowing Science of Mind principles free me to embrace my role as a participant in the expanse of One Infinite Mind, enjoying the expression of Spirit no matter the score.
